Helen Barton Parker, age 92, of Salt Lake City, returned home to her
loving Heavenly Father on April 9, 2013, after a life devoted to the service of God,
her family and her fellow man.
Helen was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Ray Hunter Barton and Emma Jay Jones on
September 9, 1920. She graduated from Davis High School, attended the University of Utah,
where she was crowned ‘Dream Girl of Delta Phi'. More importantly this is where she met her
eternal companion, Richard A. Parker. They married on November 25, 1947, in the Salt Lake LDS
temple, and made their home in Salt Lake and surrounding communities
Helen was very active in the LDS church. She served a mission in New England from March
1941-December 1942. Throughout her life she faithfully served in several auxiliary callings;
and she loved her experiences while engaged in several service missions at the Joseph Smith
Memorial Building. Helen loved serving the Lord and others
Helen was a “woman before her time.” She worked hard and earned her pilots license. She was
accepted into the Women’s Air Corp program during WWII.
Everyone who met Helen instantly loved her—and she loved them. She adored her family and was
the gracious, loving matriarch over her posterity. She loved being surrounded by friends and family.
She was well known for hosting parties for any reason, lovingly welcoming everyone into her home.
Helen is survived by her four children: Barton (and Ellen) Parker of Holladay, Janis (and Sterling)
Andreason of Syracuse, Richard Parker of Salt Lake City, Frank (and Linda) Parker of Fountain Valley,
CA, her grandchildren: Rachel (and Brent) McDonald, Lance (and Dulcie) Parker, Clinton (and Sumer)
Andreason, Spencer (and Tonessa) Andreason, Jacqui Andreason, Shantel Parker, Zachary (and Mary) Parker,
Tyler (and Sarah) Parker, Adam (and Aubree) Parker, Emma Parker, Daniel Parker, and 10 great grandchildren
who lovingly call her “Gigi”.
Helen is preceded in death by her loving husband, Richard A. Parker, her parents, Ray Hunter Barton and
Emma Jay Jones, and her brothers, John Barton, Blayney Jones Barton, and Ray Hunter Barton, Jr. There was
no doubt of a joyous reunion on the other side of the veil as she rejoined her devoted husband, family,
and many friends
